    <abstract language="eng">&lt;p style="text-align: justify;"&gt;The scattering of Love waves due to a surface impedance in the surface of a vertical discontinuous surface layer is studied in the present paper. The solution of the problem is obtained when the width of the vertical disconti-nuity is very small. The reflected, transmitted and scattered waves are obtained by using the method of Fourier transformation and Wiener-Hopf technique. The numerical computations are carried out for the amplitude of the scattered waves versus wave number. There is a sharp fall of the amplitude with slight increase in the wave number.&amp;nbsp;&lt;br /&gt;&#xD;
